Welcome to the PC Resource

Hello and welcome to Just Too Good, my humble home on the Internet. If you're after PC information, then you're in the right place!

The purpose of this site

The main focus of this site is the IT Resource. Here you will find various guides, tutorials and explanations for a plethora of computer-related topics. These guides typically start quite light and then get more and more in-depth. So it's up to you - the reader - to decide how far you want to go. If you absorb all the information I have to offer here, you will be well on your way to becoming a computer guru.

The Motherboard Topics covered include, for example, PC system architecture (with discussions of various components such as the motherboard, CPU, memory and bus), an introduction to binary and hex, and much more.

In particular, make sure you check out the networking section. I developed this section when I found a total lack of coherent networking articles on the Internet. This was especially true of material relating to TCP/IP. I now find this section to be one of the most popular areas of JTG and I receive many emails of commendation for it. Thanks to all who take the time to offer their comments, constructive criticisms and praise.

Ice: Cd/mp3/rds Tuner Car StereoYes, it's time for me to sell yet another car stereo.

It's a JVC KD-G401 CD/MP3/RDS tuner car stereo. This unit is in great condition and boasts the following features:

* 50W x 4
* Detachable front
* Multicolour LCD
* Equalizer
* Attenuation
* Line out
* CD-R/RW/MP3
* Telephone muting

Every review I can find says this is a quality unit with great sound.

The package includes the original box, manuals, cage, ISO plug and wiring, and carrying case for the head unit.

I'm after £100, delivered.

(It came with my car, and I'm selling as I've just upgraded to a double-DIN/DVD/GPS kit.)

My First Crash On A BikeIt happened yesterday evening. Somehow I knew it was going to happen, because the traffic had been terrible, it was raining, and everyone was impatient. It took me 5 minutes to get out of my work's car park on a bike, it was so gridlocked.

Anyway, I ride home the usual route, filtering the usual way and I'm nearly home. There's a queue I usually filter past by a set of lights where I live, so I filtered past them. Except this time a chap in a Laguna flicks on his signal just as I pass his rear light and turns right into a rank of shops. Either he was going to go shopping or was doing a U-turn, either way, I was in the way. No time to react, so he hit me. I came off and landed on my elbow, the bike skidded into a parked car on the other side of the road.

Yep. The parked car was a Mercedes CLK.

Everything was reasonably amicable. No one has admitted liability (I say he pulled out into me, doubtless he'll say he indicated sooner than I think he did and should have reacted sooner). Got home, phoned Bennett's (bike insurance) who were most pleasant over the phone and then the AA. The AA said it would be £104 to tow my bike around 3/4 mile, so I told them to shove it and I'd push it back.

Bike seemed to fair OK - a bit bent and missing some pegs, a bit of clutch lever, signal lights and the gearbox cover (hence it now has no oil), but the car has at least three damaged panels and the parked Merc a damaged numberplate, possibly a front bumper.

As I was going slowly, only 15-20mph, no damage to me or my equipment. Jacket, trousers, even the bin-liner quality waterproof I was wearing have no scratches. Amazingly neither does the bike's paintwork. But I'm sore, partly from the accident and partly from pushing a 200kg bike 3/4 mile.

Pics of damage (I know you're all sick and twisted like that) should be attached.

Acrobat ErrorI've installed Acrobat8 but everytime I'm trying to view something it gives me an error box. I can convert docs to pdf but only using the quick option (not the fully functional). If I try to open pdf docs it just closes up and gives me that box. Any ideas?Comments(11) Last post made Sun, 18 May 2008 by mikeskf - Read More

News and Changes

Site redesign

Finally, JTGv3 is here. I have been aware for some time that JTGv2 was looking dated and the navigation (while looking good) was clunky. Well, I've been putting it off as this is a big site and redesigning would require changes to a lot of pages. Well, I finally got off my lazy butt and did it. I hope you like it.

VBScript Tutorials

Check out the new section on scripting with VBScript and the Windows Script Host (WSH). I've added a number of articles, including a discussion on how to manipulate XML using VBScript. The latest VBScript article looks at manipulating databases through ADO.

Hacking WSFTP

Ever wanted to back up or move your WS-FTP accounts? Can't find out where the accounts are stored? Have you forgotten the passwords to your FTP accounts? Check out my WS-FTP Account Decrypter page for the solution to your problems.

Tutorials in the Forum

We now have a Tutorials section in the Forum. It hasn't been around for long, but we've already had several contributions. Mortis2000 is busy writing Photoshop tutorials, and various other contributors are posting useful Windows XP Know-How tips.

Features and articles

I've recently overhauled the Dual Booting article to include a description of how to dual boot Windows and Linux. Moreover, this article will tell you how you can switch to use the Windows Boot Loader as your primary loader, in preference to LILO or GRUB.

The recent article I wrote about JPG, GIF and PNG files has sparked lots of interest. I've improved the article and added some additional information about bitmaps, by popular demand!

Downloads

WCPUID, Motherboard Monitor and File Zapper still prove to be our most popular Downloads. But we also have several new additions, such as the FastStone 4in1 Browser (which also plays the roles of web server, FTP client and image viewer), AutoIt (for automating tedious tasks), and IDServe (so that you can find out about a server you're talking to over the Internet).

Just for Fun

The big secret is out. Get your hands on the Windows 98 source code here!

And finally...

People have finally cottoned on that PC questions go in the Forum, and not in my inbox! Well done, and keep up the good work.
