Can anyone please tell me how I can change the Hotmail new mail notification sound.... it's so quiet, unless I'm sitting at the computer, I can't hear it.

I cannot find anywhere that allows/shows me how to change the music!

Thanks.

I think you can change it by going into control panel, then sound options, sounds tab and then under the sound schemes option.

You can probably download a .wav file or make your own and save that instead.

Not sure if thats right or not but there is an uption under sound schemes for mail notification.

Nope.... it has Windows Explorer, Messenger... but it doesn't have Hotmail sad.gif

I have my MSN set to a loud sound for incoming notifications, but Hotmail doesn't play this, it has it's own. All I wanna do is change it .... pffffttttt.... not rocket science is it smile.gif

Yes I could use any .wav I like, but errr, it's where to put it to get it to work smile.gif

Are you getting your hotmail through outlook express? If nto the only other way would be via the web browser which doesnt play a tune.

I checke donline and other sources suggest the above method is how you change the sound for outlook express. I think I may be missing your point here though..lol

I am a nugget oh yes I am la la la... laugh.gif

Men... pfffftttt..... smile.gif

Hotmail is obtained via MSN, Windows Live, whatever smile.gif And it DOES already play a tune, when Hotmail arrives for me... but I want to change it.

It does NOT play the music I have set in Sounds in Control Panel, as that is for Outlook Express. Neither does it play the music I have set within Windows Live (Messenger) that tells me someone wants me on Windows Live, that a Window is on the screen.

So, it would appear I cannot set it through the Control Panel Sounds option and I can't set it within Windows Live and I cannot for the life of me find an option in Hotmail .... so...... over to you bowdown.gif

Do you mean you want to change the email notification when you're signed in msn? Have you tried going to Tools/Options/Alerts & Sounds and then selecting New Mail or whichever sound you want to change. I've just installed windows live and msn on Lori's laptop and got myself a hotmail address and tried it. It seems to work although I can only use the volume that the laptop is set on.

LOL

I can't believe how confusing this all is lol

OK, I have Windows Live. If someone contacts me I have it set to a lovely loud sound, no problem.

Now, via Windows Live you can access Hotmail. A form of Email. And when I get new mail arrived in Hotmail it tells me by playing a sound, but that sound is soo quiet, if I'm out of the room I can't hear it. So I want to change the sound that informs me I have HOTMAIL to read. Not Windows Live, not MSN, not Outlook, not Outlook Expresss, but HOTMAIL lol

As I say, Hotmail is accessed via Windows Live or MSN whichever you have. I thought that the same sound would play in Hotmail as is set up in Windows Live... but nooooooo, the one I have set up in Windows Live is nice and loud, but the Hotmail one is like a quiet little beep that you can hardly hear sitting near the computer. All I want to do is change the sound it uses.

It just doesn't seem its possible..... pffffftttt.... of all the computer problems I can't believe that a sound for Hotmail email notification could be such a pain in the grass smile.gif

Thanks all for your input... guess we'll have to go back to the drawing board lol

But answer has already been given to you by Nat13. rolleyes.gif You are being blonde.

MSN Messenger (which I've had to download just to sort you out), click the "Show menu" button (far right of the button bar).

Then Tools.

Then Options.

Then Alerts and Sounds.

The New Mail.

Then browse for the sound you want.

Which is exactly what Nat13 says. ranting2.gif

Given MSN Messenger alerts you each time you get a new message from Hotmail, I don't see the problem!

Noooo... I said the sound I get from MSN/Windows Live is NOT the same as the sound from Hotmail!!!!!!

I'm going to change them, see if that fixes it smile.gif Maybe there's something glitchy there and I need to redo it smile.gif)

So you leave Hotmail open in a window while you surf elsewhere?

Messenger is part of Windows Live. Or are you talking about Windows Live Mail?

The actual program is correctly called Windows Live Messenger... and within that you can access Hotmail.

If you click on an 'envelope' top left under your picture/name, it takes you to an email inbox, this is Hotmail.

I've had another look and I don't think you can set up a different sound alert for hotmail messages. I've just had a thought bstorm.gif I'm assuming that you've also got outlook so what would happen if you go and set a new rule/alert in outlook? Is there a way that you could transfer it to WLM? It does say that you can manage alert from compatible MS source. I can't try it coz I've not got WLM on this pc and I've not set Outlook on Lori's laptop.

Yes I know it is, but, when you set up the sounds within Windows Live Messenger, for mail notification, that only refers to Windows within the Messenger side, it does not relate to the sound you get when you have Hotmail email notification.

And Nat, thanks, I'll see if there's anything mentioned anywhere.
