Hi All,

I have been tasked with the setup of a website of the community group I am part of. Was looking at domain names just now and have a query, does your domain name need to be bought with the company who will be hosting the site? I know there are some threads already about the different web hosts out there so I shall have a look there for ones to use but I am unsure about the domain name.

Cheers
Iain

You don't have to buy the domain name from the same company providing the hosting. Buying both from the same site makes life easy as they do the DNS stuff for you. If you buy from different companies, you'll have to obtain the DNS settings from the hosting company to use when you set up the domain name.

I've done it both ways in the past. But to keep management simple, these days I buy my domain names and hosting from the same company.
