I have just received a notification about how to boost broadband speed. Nearly all was general information, but this line puzzled me:
Stop bandwidth suckers: Change your settings to stop programs like BBC iPlayer using your connection while you aren't looking. I know on the actual iplayer you have the choice to change your bandwidth version to lower, maybe this is what they mean! But you can see this option quite clearly, whereas this notification seems ot be talking about something that happens when 'you aren't looking' !! I think you can install the iplayer on yout system rather than have it as a web browser app so it will likely run in the background at startup like every other windows program does when its been installed and is probably network aware and is downloading things like updates and the latest news etc etc, there will be other programs that do similar stuff I guess but it depends on whats installed on the system.
Id assume thats the kinda thing its talking about. -------------------- I'm broke, yet I still have more money than sense
